You just can’t keep the Belcourt Theater down!
The Belcourt Theater is actually a fascinating place all on its own. If you’re from Nashville, you probably know it. But you might not know much about its history.
First off, the place is more than 75 years old. It opened in 1925 as the Hillsboro Theatre, and worked as a silent movie house. During the 30s it was used by both the Children’s Theatre of Nashville and guess who else? The Grand Ole Opry.
In 1937, the Hillsboro was renamed the Nashville Community Playhouse and did both film and theater stuff. It became the Belcourt Cinema in 1966, but then went through some tough times thanks to mall multiplexes.
Today it shows movies and has other shows and events (like the Chinese New Year celebration). It’s a city landmark, and let’s hope it’s around for a long time to come.
See you later,
Dane
