Nashville Restaurant: Icy treats for icy weather at Las Paletas popsicle shop

Posted by Dane on January 26th, 2010

Nashville isn’t just about country music: we have our quirky side, too. Seems only fitting, then, to recommend this great, little hole-in-the-wall. Granted, most people aren’t looking for a popsicle stand in the winter in Tennessee, but that’s only if they’ve never had one from Las Paletas.

Over on 12th Avenue South, there is one fantastic spot for these Mexican treats. I’ve only tasted them in Puerto Vallarta, and was so psyched to find out we had them here. These are hands-down the best popsicles you have ever tasted. There are tons of choices, both creamy and not, and the menu changes frequently. I’ve had a rose petal pop, a hibiscus one, and an amazing Mexican caramel one.

It’s a little tough to find, not much signage, but definitely worth sussing out. It’s one pop stand you won’t want to blow.

Nashville Hotel Packages: Have a blast from the past at Hotel Preston

Posted by Dane on January 11th, 2010

It takes a certain kind of person to get into TV sitcoms. Um, a person like me. And probably you. So, how great is this? I’ve never heard of a deal like this, leave it to the Preston to come up with it. You can come stay at the hotel and totally immerse yourself, TV-wise, in the decade of your choice: 1960s, ′70s, or ′80s. Hunker down and get ready to watch the complete first season of a great TV show, from your very own salad days.

Each hotel package includes a night at the hotel and appropriate snacks and doodads. The 1960s deal, for example, offers Gilligan’s Island, Clove Gum and Necco wafers, all backlit by a cool lava lamp, man. The whole gang will be there, including the Professor and MaryAnn. Will you?
